Aaron has over 20 years veterinary practice in small animals and exotics. He is internationally experienced and qualified in emergency, surgical and internal specialist. As a graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine (1998), Aaron has practiced as a US Army Veterinarian and in private practice in general practice, emergency and farm animals (goats and cattle).

While not 'born into academia', Aaron has always wanted to teach and conduct clinical research and so in 2010 he began a five-year combined residency in Internal Medicine and PhD program at Oklahoma State University.  The focus of his PhD research was diabetes mellitus in cats and the use of novel medications such as incretin mimetics for the treatment of this disease. His appreciation of the challenges of private practice and academia enable him to incorporate a balance into his theoretical and practical teaching of students regarding real world practice.

Aaron relocated to Australia and joined the UQ Vets team in September, 2015.  His professional interests are primarily in the field of endocrinology, especially diabetes in dogs and cats, as well as gastroenterology, hepatology, immune-mediated disease, and infectious disease. Aaron has dual roles at the University of Queensland – as a Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Medicine in the Faculty of Veterinary Science and a clinician at UQ VETS. He enjoys all aspects of small animal endocrinology, gastroenterology, herpetology, infectious disease, and dermatology.

Aaron and his family fully enjoy the active, outdoor lifestyle in Queensland and are in love with Australia (Although his wife and children are much less enthusiastic about the spiders). His colleagues appreciate his sense of humour and his thoughtful and caring relationships formed with clients.
